Green waste contributes a large proportion of all waste. Leaves, grass & hedge cuttings account to 20% – 30% of all solid waste currently disposed of. Currently, much biodegradable waste in the UK is filling up landfill sites. This can be especially damaging to the environment: green waste in landfill sites does not break down through natural composting, resulting in the release of noxious gases such as methane, a dangerous greenhouse gas.
There are also great financial benefits in recycling green waste properly, including recovering saleable material and saving on disposal costs. Particularly in the green waste sector, where composting produces a free soil conditioner, improving soil quality and helping plants flourish.
