Magnetic Separation

EMS can supply a complete range of Magnetic Separation Technologies including Magnetic Drums, Overband Magnets and Electromagnets.

Suspended permanent magnetic separators are positioned over moving conveyor belts or in a chute for the purpose of removing ferrous contaminants from bulk product flows.

Magnet Selection

The size of magnetic separator to be selected is dependent upon the specific application.

Position 1 -

Over Head Pulley

To achieve maximum separation efficiency, a suspended magnet should be placed immediately above the trajectory of material leaving the belt conveyor.

Position 2 -

Across Conveyor Belt

The magnet can also be placed across the conveyor belt. This position normally requires a stronger magnet.

TYPICAL OPERATION

The magnet is placed across the conveyor belt. A moving continuous belt surrounds the magnet box. Ferrous material is attracted by the magnet and is held on the belt. As the belt moves clear of the magnetic field, ferrous metals fall away into bins for collection and disposal. For e.g. The CP 20/120 is designed for a maximum suspension height of approximately 10 inches
(250 mm) on belts less than 1.2m wide. Applications involving wider belts or higher suspension may require a larger suspended permanent magnet.

We would need the following information to determine the optimal size and configuration for a particular requirement:

  • Material type
  • Material bulk density
  •  Material condition
  •  Material size
  •  Conveyor belt/chute width
